Robert Isaac Fleming papers, 1856-1905.

Scrapbook consists chiefly of correspondence and includes letters of appreciation for Fleming's work as a builder and for charitable gifts, letters of recommendation written on Fleming's behalf, and letters in support of his unsuccessful bids to be appointed to the District of Columbia Board of Commissioners in 1900 and 1902. Correspondence consists of two letter copy books (1883-1884 and 1893-1894) containing pressed copies of Fleming's letters to clients, suppliers, contractors, tenants, city officials, and others; together with some letters written to Fleming (1883-1885, 1892-1894, and 1903-1904). Financial records consist of account books documenting Fleming's daily financial transactions.
